  • UNC chapel hill students Both increased safety and convenience available wirelessly

    Students at the University of North Carolina benefit from a well-run bus system operated by Chapel Hill Transit.  The student government had operated their own shuttle system from 1968 until 1974 which has now been integrated into the larger system.  The University is a full financial partner in the transit system which operates a total of 31 routes with 83 buses and 11 lift equipped vans.

    The Chapel Hill community has long encouraged the use of transit over automobile use in central areas of Chapel Hill, including the University. 

    Since 2006, the system has employed NextBus technology to simplify operations and improve service for all riders throughout the community.  They have recently added an important mobile component.

    Mobile Wireless Makes It Better–And Safer

    Rave Wireless is partnering with the University to provide UNC Mobile, a cell phone service available to all University students with phones that can receive text messages and/or online data transfer. Students can chose which options they want to include.  Here are some of the most important:

    Although the UNC Mobile system has its primary focus on student safety, it provides the added benefit of connecting mobile users to the NextBus service–which itself can offer campus-wide messaging capability.
